Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Tried at MP after a string of 1880 and 1921 vines special labels, so a tough act to follow. Less extract than the older vineyard bottlings, with a fresh acid profile and more red fruits than black. Elegant, and needs protein at this young age, but very good. In terms of price and quality pitched midway between OP&OH/Rosehill and the significant sites bottlings, and for some there may be better value at both the higher and lower price points, 18.

  • Hunter Whistlestop 2022 (Hunter Valley): Medium minus intensity aromas prove slightly reductive, quite savoury, smells 'dense'. With time begins to open to show blackberry, plums and earthy spices, baking spice as well. Rather lovely nose. Juicy, dark hued fruit, dense, tannins are drying, persistent, more grape skin than wood. Big but beautifully balanced, almost straying to elegant. Exceedingly good.
