Deep ruby. On the nose medium intensity aromas of tobacco, blackcurrant, blackberry, earth, clove, toast. On the palate the wine is dry with medium plus acidity, medium plus silky tannins, medium plus body, medium alcohol. Flavor intensity it medium plus with flavors of tobacco, blackcurrant, blackberry, earth, clove, toast, black pepper, cocoa. Finish is medium. The wine is very good, lacking somewhat on the finish but with some complexity, balance and intensity.

Very happy with this wine. Back in 2019 I had the 2016 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Terroir Valle de Uco and I was quite disappointed, finding it as I do most Argentinian Malbec, too extracted.
This wine on the other hand is more in the same vein as the Gualtallary & Altamira wines from ALH. Much more aging potential, from the more balanced acidity. Excellent wine that will only really begin to show darker fruit in another 3-4 years. The Italian influence from some of the winemakers is apparent, so for those who like the more vibrant traditional Tuscan wines in particular, this wine is highly recommended.
I had this side by side with the 2020 Castellare di Castillina Chianti Classico, and 2019 Felsina Chianti Classico Berardenga. I am a big fan of both Felsina and Castillare di Castillina, but this ALH Malbec Reserve was the winner.
Give this wine lots of air. It will improve on day 2 and 3.

Great for the price point. Carob and chocolate up front with an earthy finish. Definitely benefits from an hour decant.
