  • Two seamless bottles of balance and concentration. PnPd successively over a dinner of roast pork tenderloin with a blackberry reduction (plus hassleback spuds, sautéed broccoli w toasted almonds and braised carrots). Crowd pleaser across geeks and novices alike. In its early part of its drinking window.

  • On day 1, bright spicy, red fruits, sappy blackcurrant, incense, limestone dust. There was a slightly boozy edge particularly noticeable on the nose. Fine grainy tannin that was rather clenching, drying. Very primary (as expected) and a little rustic. Day 2 the fruit was darker with tar, printers’ ink, a touch of molasses. The boozy fumes were more evident than the first day. Tannin much less harsh, more fat, a citric edge. I slightly preferred the more characterful day 1 showing. Really needs another 5-7 years to resolve the tannin but that alcohol level will always be an issue for me.

  • JWS has this right. Still young, and incredibly fresh and lively on the nose: raspberry, strawberry, garrigue. Palate starts fresh, but becomes somewhat metallic and hollow mid palate. Finishes a bit tart and short. Better in a few years.

  • We decided to revisit the 2019 Donjon, and it showed considerable better with thirty minutes of air than it did six months ago. Dark red and black fruits, garrigue, spice, and a smooth finish. This will absolutely improve with time, but it was drinking great.

  • The wine has changed since I drank a bottle in March. It is still a dark and boding wine. The eucalyptus is gone. The black fruits go as deep as deep can be. I poured the wine half an hour before dinner. Glad that I did. Actually, I should have decanted; there was some sediment. A lovely and long finish with tannin and more black fruit. The first sips made me think 92, but an hour later I am sure it is 94.
