Popped and poured to note the end of a wine-drinking vacation in Oregon. A dark, golden honey color. Stone fruits on the nose. A little tight at the start, but within 2 hours, this wine really sang. The sweet fruit came through, balancing out the almond notes and age. Nice acidity, a little bit of oak hanging out. 17 years and still running strong. What a beautiful wine, and a treat to taste something this old and well-kept.

Hanzell Vertical (Union Restaurant, Seattle.): Luxe-nose, almost saddle soap or faux-leather. Nice integration and softness. A bit of mandarin and nut oil. Nice push to it. Restrained, but balanced and well-set.

Hanzell Vertical (Seattle, WA): More tropical than the 1992, some pineapple, a hint of brine. Very present acidity, less dynamic than 1992 but very respectable.
