Bought at cellar. Deep garnet color. Intense nose of wild strawberries and cherries then violets immediately after opened. Penetrating educated balsamic note that foreshadows the acidity in the wine. As the wine opens up a bit in the glass more complex notes pop up. More flowers, lavander, kefir lime or other citrusy notes, refreshing spices. Then a dash of leather, underwood and wet clay, spices. As it warms up and opens up, the wild strawberry turns into strawberry jam, starting to display its ripeness. Overall very precise olfactory evolution. Great acidity on the palate, almost aggressive at this stage. The acidity is the first, dominant note. Some berries and then a very subtle smoky bitterness that lingers and dry clean ripe tannins. Very persistent metallic minerality left on the palate. It needs some more time in the bottle in order for mentioned bitterness to smooth out. This is a mid-weight fun wine.
The purity of the fruit of Piero Busso is admirable and it shows up also for this sort of strange vintage, in which some vineyards have been hit with hail (Albesani), others did fine (San Stunet, apparently). This is double-face vintage, hot, the ripe tannins show that, coupled with persistent lemony acidity. Same impression regarding the vintage I had from Giordano's Cavanna cru.
