Fill one inch into neck, brick edges, caramel and cedar on the nose, after 30 minutes fruit came forward, caramel faded, kept improving with cherry and cassis notes

Cork disintegrated upon removing; strain decant and funnel back into bottle.
Very dark with orange around rim. Rather dark for how old this is. Nose is luscious cherrywood, leather, oak, vanilla, brown rice, roasted nuts and soy sauce. Heavenly and surprising for this wine's age.
Body is rich, silky and mature. Palate has honey, strawberry, leather, apricot, prune, chestnut and dust. So good, this really impressed me with its cohesion, full body, and elegance. As it warms and gets more air, acid is just barely present. Slight rust in long finish, leading to more oak, menthol and cherry. Starts to degrade after 60 minutes so don't linger!
We've had the '84 Georges de Latour, and this 85 regular label blows it away. Much of that is likely attributed to how well the bottle was kept and how long it had been opened but this is a sleeper vintage.

Nothing wrong with this but it has clearly seen it's best days. I can only imagine that 10 years ago this was probably killer and worth the 92 rating but today it's a mere shadow of days gone by. A little stewy and menthol on the nose. On the palate you can get a sense of what was, a little lingering fruit and just as you think you've got it figured out it just dies. The finish is clipped and you're left with astringent acid. I used to really enjoy the older BV's but over the last couple of years I've had nothing but let downs. One bottle left so I won't waste any time letting it sit around. If you've got'em, drink"m. Oh well, thanks for the memories.

Past peak, not much there besides a green, menthol note. No fruit, dominant tannins, softer acidity. Tasted several times over the course of four hours. Could have been stored incorrectly.

Past its time. Tasted like vinegary port. May not have been stored well before me. So sad.
