This really worried me upon opening with a raisin note, but it blew off with a slow ox. Aged leather, red cherry, dusty tannin and licorice notes. Classic old school Rutherford bench.
Others I popped this with were more impressed, but for me it was a sevicable aged napa cab that is a bit past peak.

Great fill in the bottle, amazing for such an old wine. A little bit of bricking, a touch of sourness on the nose. Red fruits but the sourness is there with a black tea, almost steminess to boot. Still drinkable but past its prime. Interesting experiment.

Delightful, well aged balanced, and drinking very well now. Purchased directly from the winery in 2007, so I hope this is the best example of the 89 that there is. Tobacco leaf, leather, cassis and menthol notes. Elevated acidity, with a medium length finish that ends with pronounced tobacco, subtle oak and lingering red current. This is no blockbuster, it’s significantly lighter in weight than I remember when I tasted it last in 2005, but it’s very well balanced, soft and nice aromatics and finish. Certainly this wine is in decline, but I still found it very enjoyable for what it was.

This bottle came direct from the winery. In a word, not at all bad. I’ve have never been a huge fan of the Rutherford, but BV was making very different wines back then. Crushed aged cherries and dried leaves. I get smoke and some oak. The nose has a burnt caramel note with a medicinal element so typical in many of BV’s older wines. Tannins are soft and well balanced. Finish is medium in length, a little thin right off but does linger on the palette for some time. Although not terribly deep and complex, this wine is drinking perfectly right now. I found myself surprised that I wished I had more of this in the cellar.

Old Beaulieu Vineyard Wines (Cotroneo's, White Bear Lake, MN): Perfect fill, good cork. Pale orange color. DOA, gone, gone, gone. Undrinkable.
