November in St-Gallen) www.vvwine.ch

  • DRC 2019 Vintage Presentation: As always a very serious wine and one the consistently challenges the ECHs. In this warm vintage a particular success with ore freshness then many of the Vosne wines of the estate. Complex nose of dark fruit, sous-bois, elegant palate, good freshness. you'd wish that everyone on the hill would made Cortons like this. Stellar. 96-97

  • Tasted in a arrivage tasting of all DRC 2019. Overall, the 2019s DRC are beautifully perfumed, very ripe wines, but they also carry a nice vein of acidity that is making them brighter and fresh. The bottles show incredible class, but also a certain ripeness that might be something that needs getting used to for purists. I thought that the terroir was showing beautifully, despite the ripeness of the year. The wines seemeed very different and true to their cru, especially at the beginning of the tasting and again with quite some air. In between the differences were just a tiny bit muddled.
In the incredible hierarchy of great wines at DRC (and in the context of Grand Cru Burgundy) this is usually one of the „lower ranked“ ones. Not in this tasting. Surprisingly cool expression, particularly in this vintage, with amazing notes of dark and red berries, lavender, leather, earthy minerality, a touch of animalic notes, menthol and pepper. It‘s pretty full-bodied, with excellent persistence, medium-high tannin that is exceptionally silky. This is ripe, but with so much freshess (medium-high acidity) and coolish in appearance. Long finish with excellent complexity. A superb wine and probably the best Corton I have ever had. (96+)

  • This was a revelation and a delight. Shared by Pablo Alverez from his personal cellar, we opened this at dinner, the nose was just stunning with delicate roses and strawberries. The lightest of extraction resulted in a ethereal balanced juice. This was only my second corton after the recent 2017 which while excellent paled in comparison to this bottle highlighting how good winemaking hd become in DRC and how approachable the wines are early. So far one of my top wines of the year next to the equally stunning RSV 2018 earlier this year.
