I try and not be too generous with points, but this is a wine that deserves it! An amazing syrah made with love. The level or quality here is outstanding! Vanilla, blue fruits and a metallic funk. Talented use of oak, high quality grapes and a long finish. This is a top Syrah!

Sampled over three days. Polished and bright at PNP. This baby needed a few days to beef up and strut it's stuff. This needs some time laying down to really justify opening. A very pretty example of St Joseph.
93++ Hold
A Cotes du Rhone would be more justifiable at this stage.

Nose: cherry liquor, herb, smoky vanilla, touch of brett Palate: creamy cherry vanilla. Finish timed at 30 seconds. Great balance with the acidity. Very smooth Tasted with: Ragu and mushrooms fried in butter Overall: this was great overall. Consensus at my house was 94 points (95 and 92). I'm sure it will age well but fits with my hypothesis that good wine tastes good at all time points

Energy & elegance is what defines the incredible 19 Guigal Vignes de l’Hospice - great appeal because of the depth, intensity and preciseness. Dense dark ruby, semi-translucent in appearance. Alluring, fresh and pure, leading with heady white pepper, black and red ripe fruit mixed - cherries, plums, blackberries, currants, violet florals. Medium+-bodied, lovely savoury character, teeming with minerality. Well-integrated oak, impressively vibrant throughout. The epitome of elegance and beauty, for now of long-haul!

Guigal La La New Release (2018) Dinner with Brett Crittenden (Prince Wine Store South Melbourne): Sweet, complex, profound. Beautiful.
Aged in 100% new oak. Geologically related to Hermitage across the river.
Although drinkable now, 10 years will see it hitting its straps. My second choice behind the La Las - eclipsed by the 2018 d'Ampuis.
