Bordal chez Jean (Syrahs de Guigal): Aveugle. Robe prune violette. Très ouvert dès le 1er nez, archétype du Saint-Joseph bien vinifié qui donne du plaisir et de la facilité (dans le bon sens du terme) à boire. Excellent

Eðalklúbbur, haustsmakk #1 2022 (Marbakkabraut 12): Mjög dökkt. Vanilla, púrtvín, romm, varðeldur og kol í nefi. Líka oxun, brennd eik og brunatónar. Svo á tungunni: Mjög mikil sýra. Dökkir ávextir. Plómur, krækiber og sæta. Líka brennd eik. Mér fannst þetta gott en við vorum alveg týndir í því hvaðan þetta vín kæmi.

This just needs 5-10 years and it’ll be so good. Dark and brooding, lots of power, nicely balanced, a bit of heat which I assume will dissipate in time, 14% alcohol. I had the 2010 last Christmas Eve and it blew my mind. There is some great Saint Joseph available these days, representing terrific QPR, but I think this is one of the best. Cool label too.

It should have been decanted and filtered, there is lots of age left. Great wine.

Comparative (Young) Northern Rhone Tasting (Birch Road Cellar - Chicago IL): Opened 3 hours, decanted 1 hour before tasting. Dense, brooding, and powerful, this is much more interesting than tasty right now. Needs cellar time.
