  • Challenge : Blind tasting of 10 very good German Riesling Kabinett from Mosel, Nahe und Saar, most of them from 2020, some of them from 2018 to see if we can identify the Egon Müller, Scharzhofberger Kabinett.
This was fascinating and challenging as we did not know which other 9 wines were in the tasting. We won :). One wine was similar, but did not have the elegance. It was more in your face: Turned out the host had included a 2020 Scharzhof from egon müller.
The EMSBK was by far the most elegant of the wines with this impeccable balance that I so much like of acidity and sweetness. It’s a wine that does not need any companion to be enjoyed.
Pity, that the price has gone up so much. If somebody knows I was sibling that is a bit more affordable, please let me know.

  • Had it at Atomix NYC. Pale yellow color, light gasoline, honey, lemon, guava on nose. Lemon, white peach, stone fruits, honey on the palette, sweetness is perfectly structured with acidity, medium to long finish. 93 pts

  • Lemon and grapefruit driven flavors with a touch of peach.
Amazing balance with a very solid and structured acidity. Loved it, but with some potential of improving in depth! 94-95p

  • 20 hours bottle decanting at cellar temperature.
Also from Scharzhofberger, the 2020 Van Volxem Pergentsknopp is far better in all aspects.

  • Delivered in Brittany to avoid local average stockist. Pnp in mean glass. Nose shy of gazoline and guava. Mouth energising en gently seductive
with a nice and fine structure of freshness, perceptible sweatness, a bit fizzy, ending on delicate lime. Simple aromas, fine style, long length. Solid 91. Needs time. A universal pleaser.
