We had it with Indian food at a byob restaurant. It was very nice, but the sweetness didn't seem to be quite in balance with the other characteristics that might keep it in check. Not sure what to make of it given my limited experience with this style of wine.

Riesling and Pinot Noir Lunch (Sun Wah - Chicago IL): Double blind at Riesling/ Pinot Noir lunch. Fruit came across as lush and tropical with a warmth that made me think this New World! An odd bottle, and it's not just that this is too young, it was off balance in a way that didn't let anybody find much to enjoy. Certainly needing more cellar time, but an off bottle, too?

#17-21, 8.5% abv. This is definitely the largest-scaled and most expansive of the three Spätlese. A generously proportioned nose with a slight white cherry note and other stone fruits, this comes across as more fruit-forward and less herbal and mineral (that's relatively speaking, mind you). Expansive and broad on the palate, this doesn't have the linearity and raciness of the Brücke, but nevertheless underneath all that sweet fruit at the forefront of the palate is an impressive mineral core.

This is an outstanding Spaetlese. Expensive relative to its very best German competitors (Prum, Molitor), but still a value relative to whites from almost anywhere else. Missing the nth degree of tension and electricity that would bump my score closer to the pro reviews. Looking forward to visiting my other bottles in future years.
