A much hyped wine. Hazelnut and pecan, sweet vanilla, muscovado, low acid but seemingly much younger than its age. An incredibly long nutty and woody finish, followed by a secondary finish with notes of dried orange peel. I have no benchmark regarding where this wine was when younger, and would have liked to have tried it 25 years ago, and then again 25 years hence. Bottle from chateau. A nice surprise from Jean Francois

Unlike the 2005, this was solid and totally resolved. It has energy, but the whole package is deft and elegant. Honeyed apples, walnut, elegant without a hint of plodding. Jean Francois says that this is a "young man". But I'd say it's older than that. More along the lines of someone in their late 30's who knows themselves and as complete and relaxed a person as they get.

(BOURDY Chalon) 1947 Dear Friends, Over the last few weeks, I've received an unbelievable number of inquires from far and wide regarding the Bourdy wines and a large percentage have been for this - the legendary 1947 Chateau-Chalon. As a reminder, this is the wine in the quote from the Georges V in Paris: "At the restaurant we consider Bourdy's Chëteau-Chalon 1947 as the absolute standard of the 20th century, keeping in mind that we suspect Chëteau-Chalon to be the greatest white wine in the world" - Thierry Hammont, Premier Sommelier, The Georges V restaurant in Paris, 2008." This parcel is from original cellar material that has never moved from Bourdy's estate. It is one of the last authentic parcels in existence (if not the last). Only a few dozen bottles remain of this elixir and, as one of the only Bourdy wines subject to counterfeit, be very careful if you see bottles of the 1947 selling for less than 650 Euros - if they are from a private party be even more afraid. As a show of provenance, this parcel has value that is almost limitless to French culture and the history of wine - you simply cannot get better provenance anywhere and the rarity is among the most acute of any wine from the last century. This wine should age well past it's 100th birthday. An enviable legend that may never be repeated - ever. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as one of the most incredible, age-defying creations of vinous origin since 1900. 1947 Caves Bourdy Chëteau-Chalon (traditional clavelin) (original cellar parcel) EXTREMELY LIMITED It will ship during the first available shipping window this spring via air freight only (NO GROUND SHIPPING on this item).
