First bottle tasted after recorking. Best showing yet. Very nice nose, showing tertiary notes but nothing alarming at all. The dominant aromas are of an earthy and a spicy character with just a little plum and cherry in the background. Not a very deep hue and showing a little amber along rim but totally appropriate for a 63 year old wine. The texture is quite nice: still a noticeable tannic backbone but sufficient texture to keep it relatively smooth. Very much an "old style" type of wine with plenty of extraction and no fear of producing a wine needing some time in the cellar. Long, lingering finish on the iron/spicy side. I plan to drink the remaining bottles over the next 10 years.

First of 10 bottles. The wine is labeled "Los Coutalos" Vieux Cahors with the same graphics. This was back when Cahors was still a VDQS. Mid-neck fill, cork holding up but breaking without my Durant. Not decanted as I try to assess the state of this wine. In retrospect, this wine does not need decanting. It showed beautifully upon opening, but needs drinking within 2-3 hours after opening. Clearly on the tertiary side but still some fruit remnant. Excellent complexity, balance and length. A lighter wine in terms of structure, not a "Vin Noir" in any meaningful wine. Perhaps made from young vines after the re-planting following the freeze of 1956 Purchased at $ 14/bottle at auction...
