  • Upon openning a rush of a sweet red cherry hit my nose. That gave way to other red fruit. The red cherry continued in the mouth, but not like cherry cough syrup that many describe in Port. Tannins have fully smoothed out. The mid-pallet lacked the omph of other years but overall a lovely Port. Sadly I only had one in my Port collection.

  • Dinner with Steve & Lucie (Our Place): From a 375 ml bottle. Decanted for only 1 hour (with lots of sediment) and this wine definitely needed more air time. Much of my core impressions of this wine follow that of the 12/4/21 TN of ikkaariainen - although I would like to know whether that bottle was decanted, and if so, for how long.
Nose of raisins, red and black fruit and a touch of tobacco. The palate showed the same elements as the nose, along with some spice. The wine was smooth and integrated and had a lingering finish. It went well with the blueberry pie served as dessert.
I have two more 375 ml bottles and look forward to seeing how this wine develops over the next 5 to 10 years.

  • Before writing this note I reviewed my previous note on this wine from 5 years ago and largery agree with my previous assessment but clearly more maturation has occurred. A beautiful and now fully mature and ready to drink single vineyard vintage port from a highly respected producer. A good QPR at the avg CT price, a great QPR at our on-line price. This still has a good 2 decades to go - this will easily go 2040+. As expected heavily sedimented. Deep dark purple w/out any peripheral bricking or browning noted, soft and very smooth with a great mouth feel, big wine, complex and well integrated with a beautiful very long lingering aftertaste. Nose unchanged - aromatic raisins, prunes, dark stone fruit and coffee with a spicier finish. Beautiful complex flavor profile with up front fruit and berry - blueberry, dark fruit and raisin giving way to more coffee, mocha and allspice mid-palate and ending on more earthier notes of leather, tar and mushrooms. Highly recommend, our last bottle, sacrificed for the greater common good at our wine club Christmas party.

  • A bit simpler than the best vintage years, but still very nice overripe but not jammy black fruits. Very smooth. Still very dark in color with only modest ruby color at the rim.

  • all said too sweet for us and not enough complexity although this improved a lot with air over the next 8 days. it did get more cough syrupy on the nose but pleasantly so and the palate had better acid and less cloying sugariness.
