Great bright golden color. Needed about an hour to open up on intense aromas of apricot, confit orange, roasted almonds and lavender honey. The wine is fully coating the palate, without being too thick on the palate, with a great tannic feel, perfect to pair with rabbit and foie gras. Still the apricot with meyer lemon accents with an intriguing curry note. Just a little hollow in the mid palate but sailing on a extra long finish. Great bottle.
This was outstanding and very interesting - intense, deep golden amber similar to very old German rieslings, ever so slightly oxidized and improved immensely with an hour decant. Without the slight oxidization still has years to go with proper cellaring. Too expensive to be a reasonable QPR. Paired very well with lobster & risotto. Soft, big mouth feel, complex and well integrated, long aftertaste and on 1st approach too tight & raisiny both of which resolved in the decanter. The initially somewhat sweet musty nose blew off quickly after the decant and nose opened up with aromatic hints of honey, rose and pear with primary flavors initially of honey & caramelized sugar opening up into yellow apple, pear and peach with a hint of smoke on the aftertaste. Highly recommend this wine despite the price point. With the slight oxidation I recognise that this wine is not for everyone, at least this particular bottle.
2006 Beaucastel VV : This is a special white wine, hints of honey and yellow flowers blossom, เก็กฮวย, after 2-3 hours the nose is more open and very lovely. Body is dense, full structure like drinking red wine. Aftertaste is quite tight. This is not an easy wine, slowly drinking is recommended.
Great wine with great friends (Long Island): Poured much deeper almost orange color than normal. This wine was clearly a bit oxidized. Created quite a distribution of opinions - from someone scoring it a 99 to someone scoring it a 65 in our QPR blind white tasting. I liked it. Coming on the heels of a JJ Prum riesling it was less accessible, but just a bit deeper.
