The 1987 Tertre Roteboeuf is a real success, perhaps unsurprisingly given François Mitjavile's ability to transcend a difficult vintage. I'm not sure what the assemblage is, but the Cabernet Franc seems to shine through with a complex, moderately intense nose of coal ember / ash, peppery, herbal, and mineral alongside the lush dark fruits imparted by the Merlot. It's relatively light-weight in the mouth, but it's balanced and a pleasure to drink now.

Will T’s (30th) 87s (Noizé, London): Dense, slightly green pepper nose. Nicely rounded and smooth. Decent length too. Very good by any standard. After a couple of hours still showing well but rather emphasising a showy simplicity rather than complexity. Very nice drink though and clearly the best of the flight. ***1/2

There cannot be many bottles of this out there now. This was my only bottle, and it was such a surprise: utterly fresh, no real signs of age, good length and genuine TRb character. Another example of how Francois Mitjavile makes super wines in dull vintages. I wonder how long this could last if allowed to. Probably for a few more years still.
