  • Matter of Taste Zurich, Grand Walkaround Tour. A puristic and precise fruit with unusually intense flavours of smoke, mineral notes and scorched earth. The balance is not there yet, but there is lots of substance. Would allow this many years of bottle age. Was not as blown away as when I tasted this last a year ago, but then the time also had some time to breath in the glass. Would definitely decant this 1-2h at this stage.

  • No notes taken. As always, Donatsch Unique is all about purity, finesse and elegance with Burgundian feel to it. Freshly bottled, this shows lighter, leaner and with less substance than the 2018 on release. Still, this should develop into a beautiful wine over time, as it will adding tertiary complexity along the way. I would hence wait at least 10 more (better 20) years before opening this vintage. The structure is impeccable and will allow for graceful aging. 92/93 pts today.

  • Donatsch Unique Pinot Noir Complete Vertical (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasted at the Matter of Taste Zurich Complete Donatsch Unique Pinot Noir Vertical (2000-2019, all from Magnum) Masterclass. This wine showed enormous complexity and immense depth. Milk coffee, herbs and a bit of earth, alluring smokiness complement a lively and fresh fruit. The palate is pure heaven with fresh acidity, a creaminess and silkiness to the texture. The palate is super young with plenty of tannin. Will surely need another decade or more to reach the peak, but has the potential to become the new best ever in my view.

  • All 20 Vintages of Donatsch Pinot Noir Unique: Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to taste all vintages ever produced of this top Swiss Pinot Noir. All from magnum. A few obeservations: A) The structural frames are exceptional. Superb tannin quality, high, and perfectly-integrated acidity, lots of finesse and a weightless feel in all vintages. B) These wines are made to age. Only the 2002 was over-the-hill, most other showed young(-ish) from magnum and will have a long life ahead. Only the first vintage (2000) showed tertiary/peakish. C) The wines start drinking quite well from the age of 12-15 years. The younger ones from the 2010 vintage onwards were more about the potential with many even a bit closed. D) There's a jump in complexity with the 2004 vintage. Most (open) wines show beautifully complex, very well delinated, pure and Burgundian in style with a well-measured touch of sexiness.

TN: Medium expressive on the palate. Superb on the palate, with so much ripe but pure red berries, dark red berries, toasty notes, stems, earthy notes. Lots, lots of purity, tension. This shows very, very promising, freshness, quality of tannins are exremley high. Will need 10 years to get to the 95 pts+ category. Promising.
