Deep purple. Nose black fruit with a touch of soy sauce.
Rather dense, sweet black currant and dark cherries with an unusual (though perfectly pleasant) dried strawberry note and touch of mint on the finish to begin with.
Took a couple of hours to really open up and soften and reveal more mature, complex tertiary notes. Pencil wood (not necessarily lead), earth and a nice black pepper touch.
Rather brooding and dense yet still fresh with good balance. A nice long finish. Absolutely needs time in a decanter still but was all the more pleasant versus last time I tried this by virtue of this. Enjoyed.

Still young. Ripe blue fruits, some earth and liquorish.
Unfortunately didn't feel quite balanced and had a certain alcoholic burn to it - I wonder if this could be fixed with a few more years in bottle? For now thought I'll say "Darmagi"... what a pity!

I'm not a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, except for this Darmagi. French synonym "dommage", but it's not a "dommage" at all. plummy, truffle, flowers indicate a moderate maturity, yet the earthy notes remind us its Itaniano origine. The slight herbaceous finish revealed its real identity: Cabernet Sauvignon. I admire the gut and the confidence of Angelo Gaja, that I should say this is one of the most elegant cabernet sauvignon I have tasted. It's the deeper and more profound version of Neibiolo. The best CS of the year.
