Not easy to detect as an Italian wine. Many guessed Bordeaux. At his peak. Good acidity structure and dominating tertiary aromas. 96

  • Decanted and left to sit for 4 hours.

This wine was a medium garnet with rusty copper hues at the rim. The nose gave off pronounced aromas of cassis, dusty oak, dying violets, mulberries and hints of leather and eucalyptus. The entry of sour cherries and preserved blackcurrants was well integrated with mineral undertones of crushed slate. The almost unnoticeable tannins started to creep in towards the mid-palate, giving a silky and creamy mouthfeel. Subtle oak characteristics became more prominent towards the finish, invoking flavours of cognac and kirsch. The alcohol was ample at the end, providing an invigorating and merry finish.

This was a perfectly balanced wine, and at this stage of drinking, provided a surprising amount of supple, yet determined fruits with layers of complexity.
