  • The 2021 iteration of Frederic Esmonin's village-level Gevrey-Chambertin is a light-to-medium ruby Pinot that offers a moderately intense nose of assorted red fruits, Asian spices, lavender, black tea and dried herbs. Light-to-medium-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (12.5%), softly tannic and with equally soft oak, it delivers flavors mirroring the aromas but thins out on the mid-palate. Resurrecting a medium-length finish, it is certainly enjoyable but does not compare with many previous editions of this wine. Perhaps a bit more time in the cellar will help to fill in the middle, but I wouldn't bet the bank on it. Sampled from a bottle that had been popped and poured, this showed best after a couple hours of air. Drink 2026-2031.

  • Medium-light ruby red in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, mushrooms, spices, minerals, herbs & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced and smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with herbs, spices, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Drinks quite well with extended airing but should develop further with additional aging.
