This is from my note in 2014, appropos 2020: "Indice 4. Super golden color and looks viscous. Nose of botryized fruit and honey. Palate loads of ripe persimmon and apricot but with some nice minerality - is this Rangen terroir coming into play? Despite the sweetness it is not cloying." This wine was not very happy accompanying homemade Sauerkraut with smoked chicken. It wanted foie gras. I'll have to figure out another appropriate pairing for the next one since that is illegal in my state. The wine: Excellent.

Quite sweet, way too much to pair with any kind of regular meal in my opinion. We tried to pair it with a chicken tajine (cinnamon, ginger, saffron, prunes and honey) and while it worked on an aromatic level, the wine was just too sweet for the dish. It also lacks acidity to be really compelling. Overall a disappointment for this price.

Despite the sweetness it is not cloying, indeed, the pairing with roasted pumpkin and apple soup was just great. Outstanding.

(Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain) Very focused, earthy, cabbage nose; lovely concentrated palate with chalk and mineral edges; long finish 93+ pts.

Tired. Lacking in structure and balance. Some nice quince, apricot, honey almond notes. But did not finish the bottle.

Intense apricot and honey. Paired with a flash friend snapper which worked well.
