  • Was it drinkable? Yes…interesting? Yes….but I also would have liked to try this a few years ago as it is past peak.

The colour is brick red, with plenty of sediment in the bottle. The nose is of stewed red berries, sour cherries, roasted tomatoes, cured meats, some earthy notes, mushrooms but undone by a sharpness and a hint of nail varnish. The palate is also acidic, and while it helps make the wine still fresh enough to drink, the fruit is clearly fading and flavours leans towards to being over the hill, leaving it slightly unbalanced.
Surprisingly, this still had a few tannins on the finish so felt like overall the wine had the structure to last this long, but not quite the concentration.

Edit - I opened 3 bottles of this with similar results, but the 4th was still alive and kicking. Very similar nose of cherries, earth, smoked meats and tomatoes but with none of the sharp nail polish. Palate was beautifully balanced even if on the slightly mature side, with deliciously baked cherry type flavours, but also lovely savoury elements of mushrooms, tomatoes and hints of bresaola and very well integrated slightly chalky tannins that give it a bit of charm. Absolutely delicious mature Barbaresco but buyer beware, you may have to kiss a few frogs first! Glad I didn’t just bin the rest of the bottles!

  • Brick red in color. Earthy, herbs, leather on the nose. Tannins are fully integrated.

Lovely mature wine. Enjoyed at home with steak.

  • Another delicious wine in a sea of them for my friends 40th bday. Tannins, soft red fruits, smoke and herb with a bit of thorn and rose. Was a great pairing with steaks.

  • Lots of tar and smoke along with rose petals. A bit four squared on the palate. It's decent enough but not up to the Ceretto standard.

  • Medium reddish garnet in color with minor bricking at the edges. Forward and attractive nose of complex & developed, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, berries and currants with smoky overtones, floral notes of roses, tobacco, tar, earthy notes, some spices, anise, mushrooms, dried herbs, minerals and vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a good concentration of balanced, smooth textured, mature & developed ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & tart cranberries with spices, herbs, earthy, anise, minerals, a hint of vanilla and some toasty oak. A somewhat short but elegant finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and airing. Although it is currently at its peak of development, it may be best to drink up relatively soon.

Rockss and Fruit

(Ceretto "Bricco Assili" Barbaresco) Mushrooms, shredded nuts, spicy cherry, cinnamon and small berries on the nose. Really uplifting in the mouth. Gobs of fruit that is very primary and nice velvety tannins. There is a ton of oak on this but the fruit stands up.
