Slight browning, otherwise medium-red. Very expressive aromatically with secondary components dominating for the most part. A little heat. Big, just-south-of-stewed, fruit on the palate. Secondary notes here too. Fairly "sweet" (in a good way). Nice balance except for the aforementioned heat. Very nice overall. Try again late 2016-ish.

Chambolle Musigny Masterclass, with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Maybe a touch on the overdone side, with quite a bit of oak and extraction. Good developed aromatics for the age but still very young and tight as a wine even with the amount of fruit. True to Prieur style of big mascular and meaty wines. A bit too young to rate for us at this stage.

We decided to decant this bottle for 1 1/2 hour before drinking. From the time I tasted before decanting to the time we drank the wine opened up beautifully. The nose was intense and elegant - hints of roses, layers of black currant and cherries, and a note of cola. The tannins were very silky and the balance of the wine was perfect, round. Decanting was an 'imperfect' way to deal with the fact that this was opened 5 years before when it's actually supposed to. At any rate, the flavors were intense and kept evolving in the glass. Great mid-palate mouth coating. Long finish...I can still remember the flavors! This should be opened again in 2015 and from then on, another 15 years
