Single piece cork, signs of seepage, raised or bloated cork, 50% saturation. good fill level despite all that. Decanted for 30 min, tasted over 3hours. Medium sediment, needs straining
V: garnet, with slight orange at meniscus. Some deposit. N:Mature bouquet, iron, meatiness, earthiness. Palate is lean, nice flavours, but tastes dilute. Unsatisfying. Could be the bottle condition but i doubt it played a dominant role. Just a bit ordinary for an hermitage that’s just hitting its maturity plateau.
Drink or hold to 2028, limited upside imho. 13% abv

Just lovely. A bottle of Hermitage that is just entering maturity. Smoke, charcoal and blackberry on the nose. Fantastic acidity, more black fruit and olive brine, some gamey notes, loads of earth and soft, well-integrated tannin on the finish. This would have stole the show if it weren't for the 86 Cornas...

Mature nose of dark fruit, meat, pepper, nicoise olive, lavender and garrigue. ust as complex on the palate, full of tertiaries. Smoke meat, game, leather... Bright with medium plus acid. Tannins are fully resolved, this is soft and smooth. I get something new every time I take a sniff. This is a good, mature bottle. May be a bit passed peak for those who love primaries but I just love the complexity time brings. Honorable effort.

Started out with very off-putting aromas of brett-stink plus hints of early oxidation. A pine-tar bitterness as well (leftovers from the heavy oaking?). Either way, this all blew off after a double decant and half an hour. Turned into a servicable northern rhone, but not a wowser. Lots of black olive, dark fruit. Missing some of the yummier grilled meat qualities of rhones at this price point. Tannins have resolved, very soft.

Lovely mature red wine from Norhern Rhone. Packed with black fruit flavours, cinnamon, liquorice and vanilla with balance and style. Best wine at a tasting of mature Hermitage inc Guigal and others.
