Mature wines (Sindre): Deep dark red, no transition. The nose is reductive with a little barn and fart, but this blows away quickly. Brilliant red fruit, caramel, earth, and tobacco. The palate has tart fruit, cherries, and pepper. High in acid. Soft, ripe tannins. Long, delicate, and fresh finish. This har several years ahead of it still.

Served double blind. Dark fruit on the nose with a bit of spice made me think Syrah...but first taste rules that out. Oxidation on the front palate which then bursts into very fresh acidity on the back, with a hint of seeetness. Torn between Rioja and Tuscany, settled on Rioja based on the sweetness, which I assumed came from oak, but was off on age by over a decade. A very cool bottle of wine.

Difficult vintage where apparently no Unico was made. Stunning nose of chocolate, grilled meat, cigar, damp forest, musk. Palate is wide open and just gets better with air, so fleshy and supple with bright acidity and mature sweetness. Hard to believe how good this was.
