First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Aromas of herbaceous, biscuit, brambles, cream, black fruits, chocolate, mint, leather. Juicy, creamy, sweetly fruit, spice, black fruits, slight alcohol warmth. Leather. Long. Lovely. I knew this was my Mildara

Angelica wine club - Old Shit (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Green capsicum, red and blackcurrant, leather, sweet spice, some umami notes, it gets more savoury with time, touches of tea leaf and volatility. That volatile note is more noticeable on the palate, red over blackcurrant, silky tannins, leather, slight oxidised notes here as well. Until the VA takes over this is rather nice.

Lots to like in an old Cabernet way but a bucket load of volatile acidity topped with a dusting of damp cellar lends this a rather stale vinegar at the back of the cupboard note which is, unsurprisingly, off putting and grows more and more dominant with time in the decanter. FLAW

Coravin fun - New old and old new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Lovely pyrazine, cream, leather, black coffee, a little plain chocolate and toast over the tiniest hint of red currant fruit. In the mouth the flavours are similar to the palate with a nutty note and a little sharpness to the acidity. Over the hill but still interesting. Note - with time that red fruit note grows and ripens tending towards strawberry.
