Dark garnet in color with some clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & tobacco & notes, leather spices, mint/eucalyptus, cocoa/coffee grounds, minerals, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied of a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums, spices, herbs, minerals & a slight hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 41 years of age it appears to be at its peak of development although it shows no signs of going over the hill. Fill was in lower portion of neck; cork stained 1/8 up but intact.

wow. wasn't expecting much from this 36 yr old wine. Still fresh nose. very smooth, tanins resolved. Will enjoy the few bottles remaining. Drink up as it is at it's peak

Cabernet Tasting Six wines. Lovely old cabernet nose of dark fruit with hints of cedar, more of the same on the palate, opened slowly and improved, medium finish, nice but tired. My fifth place wine.

This wine cannot overcome its over oaked character. Smokey; doused campfire aroma; blended with rather intense blueberry; pruniness; astringent with strapping tannins; bitter chocolate. Fruit is in background, unfortunately masked by oak.

This wine has always been tannic and that shows no signs of abating. Bright ruby red; no visible bricking. I see nothing to suggest that the fruit will outlast the tannins, but it is drinking very nicely. Solid core of fruit with a slightly astringent finish. A shade below the '82 Montelena, but one of the better '82 cab's that I have had recently. 13.5% alcohol, 5% merlot, 5% cabernet franc. Probably will not get any better, but it shows no signs of going over the hill.
