David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): Dense ruby. Similar on the nose to the Roumier. Finely chalky. Nicely padded without being rich. Attractive and an approachable Barthod. Doesn’t quite hold its line with air. ***1/2

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): On pouring in addition to the red fruits there is subtle sweetness that reminds me of childhood grilled ripe banana with brown sugar, with air some lovely tertiary autumn leaves and some crushed walnut emerges. Something meaty and in the aniseed spectrum, reminds me of crumbled Camisa fennel sausages. Palate, like a few others, a little short and one dimensional. Final sip has a subtle raspberry jam sweetness to it.

Andrew Edmunds (Andrew Edmunds, London): From Magnum. Finally a 1999 made with a light hand and with a soft earthy almost fully mature feel. We have had our fair share of GCs from 1999 that were still very ripe and almost closed. Granted bottle variation at 22 yrs old is there but this was a very pretty wine , earthy, complex, medium bodied. Soft herby finish too. If we are to fault it on one ground it would be that it is relatively short on the length but we are willing to forgive :) 93-94 and drink sooner than later

Dinner with AG at Imperial Treasure. Aired in bottle for about 45 mins+ before drinking. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, tight medium- intensity, with aromas of iron earth, garden flowers hints, red cherries, slight leather. Some dark horse and sauvage elements with more air. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), soft silky yet structured medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, dark red cherries, red licorice, sweet herbs, iron earth, leather, chalky minerality, sweet spices. Very long finish. Very good quality. Great complexity and depth with ripe dark fruits combined with a silky elegance. Still so fresh! Methinks this still needs another 3-4 years of age at least.

Dark and earthy PN aomas. Quite tannic and powerful for a Chambolle, but also some Chambolle silkiness. Good intensity.
