Fully developed - petrochemical nose - I liked the previous description of a hot lorry park! Still high acidity, but fruit is lacking and it’s rather disjointed. Interesting but not especially pleasurable.

Lunch chez moi with AG, JP & FG (The Shed, Ealing): Screwcap. Fairly brassy gold colour. Overwhelming diesel nose: this really was like a lorry park on a hot day. Quite full on the palate, were there was some lime cordial but not much else. Nose a bit OTT and the palate fine but this was hard to like, let alone love.

A typical Eden Valley riesling - lemon blossom and citrus nose and a clean, crisp fruity body with some secondary characteristics showing (honey and flintiness). Very enjoyable but could do with another 5 years if you like to drink nice aged riesling.

Screwcap. Rich nose of elderflower and petrol, with lots of river-stone minerality. Palate shows sweet fruit flavours (elderflower, lemon, and kumquat, with a light fuel note), but doesn't feel sugary or syrupy, and has a dry, slightly astringent finish. Mouthfeel resembles effervescent, chalky soda, with firm acidity and lots of minerality.
