Medium lemon. Preserved lemon nose. Quite a concentrated presence of lemon citrus on the palate. It does have an oily texture in the mouth with some aged characters of lanolin and preserved citrus fruits. Finish is dry and long with a phenolic grip and medium acidity. Flavours are intense, but also one dimensional with little beyond the lemon citrus. Label stakes claims of a 20 year cellaring life, but seems to me to developing at a faster rate. Given its premium status amongst Australian Riesling this fell a bit flat for me.

2014 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting & Trophy Wines Lunch (Homebush & Four Seasons Hotel): [bronze medal] {screwcap} Sweaty lemon nose. It’s very lemon-like on the palate too, but not fresh; rather it’s a phenolic and grape-skin-like, with a thick, greasy texture, medium weight and a medium length finish. There‘s a fairly even presence along the tongue, but seemingly low acidity has cost it focus and precision, leaving it tasting flat and wishy-washy. This seems to me part of the Steingarten style, to judge from recent tastings. Not for me.

(Jacob's Creek Riesling Steingarten) Very light green-tinged yellow color; aromatic, lime, light vermouth, tart green melon, light menthol nose; tasty, dry, complex, flinty, lime, mineral palate with medium acidity; medium-plus finish (11% alcohol; from a 50-year-old hillside vineyard)
