  • Gifted bottle from a friend. Having had an '11 recently we thought we'd open this to see where it stood--in two words "unbelievably beautiful". Soft integrated tannins, nice acids up front, plenty of fruit left. Red and black fruits intermingle with sage and olive brine. Oh so nice.

  • Greenblanket's last bottle and he is glad he opened it. Everything was in balance and the body was smooth and fairly long. The original fruit was muted way down but we didn't get any hint of tertiary development - maybe that's asking too much or maybe we didn't decant long enough.

  • ahhhh - a sublime bottle of 2001 Zin from Fred Scherrer...Slightly muted fruit, but oh so smooth, medium long finish, fabulous nose - pretty much sums up why I drink wine!
and this is just a tad better today than the last bottle we tasted in July - it is not competing w/ a bigger bolder wine so that probably makes it shine further along with it being a much cooler night, so the wine is not as a better temp.
Quite a decent match with shrimp w/ arugula pesto (almost like a green gazpacho in flavor) and some sauteed zukes.

  • Still drinking beautifully - hard to believe this is a 2001 zin. Tannins have smoothed out, and there is only a tiny bit of fruit detectable, and still a very nice wine - perfect match with grilled ribeye (sans rub).

  • Hard to believe this is a 2001 Zin given that it drinks like a younger wine. Still has fairly good acidity and opened nicely after about 30 mins. Had a little bit of black licorice on the nose. Not a whole lot of depth left on the fruit, but all in all is still pretty well balanced. Could probably spend a couple more years in the bottle.
