A really nice find, this 2007 for around $12 really over delivers, while bringing a nice dose of maturity to a red wine still vibrant and fruity. Deep dark red color. The nose is very fruity, almost like a Petit Sirah, but also with a hint of raisin. Nicely aged and integrated, the entrance is quite dry. Red raspberry, dark cherry, cassis, and blackberry pie flavors. The acid, tannins and oak have had enough structure to hold things together this long and still have some life left. Smooth, mouth coating lingering tannin, graphite, licorice and tar with the fruit on the finish.

First wine I've tried from this highly regarded producer. I appreciate that 07 wasn't the greatest vintage but this wine wasn't particularly impressive. It was a touch too sweet, it was far too oaky and the alcohol was a tad too high. It lacked freshness and after a few glasses was tiresome to drink. There are many Ribera del Duero producers who provide better drinking of this style and offer better qpr.

The wine offered a slightly reductive nose, with sweet red and dark fruit, floral and herbaceous notes, spices, vanilla, chocolate and liquorice. It showed red and dark fruit, spices, some vanilla, coffee, some milk chocolate and a hint of liquorice on the palate, paired with medium-minus tannin, medium to medium-minus acidity, a smooth mouthfeel and very good length. Despite 14.5% ABV the round, medium-bodied wine seemed almost weightless on the palate. Not the most complex Rioja, but easy-drinking to the extreme and very well-made. We finished the bottle in no time and longed for more. Impressive, particularly in the context of the difficult growing season. Drink now.

Black core with a violet/ruby rim. A modern, yet balanced Rioja. Black cherry & anise on the nose with some cedar. Medium to full bodied with tart cherry, soy sauce, plums & cinnamon. Silly tannins & good concentration. Long finish with lingering red fruit.
