pop and pour. Bright cherry, wet rock aromas. "Bottle-age" nose starting to come out. Chalky, but short tannins in the mouth lead to a silky, saline-like finish. Drinking well now.

No formal notes, but I liked this and thought it was drinking well. Maybe a bit marked by the Bouchard style. By that I essentially mean high toast new oak which strips the wine of life as it ages (I have to be careful here- I don't necessarily think the former implies the latter in all circumstances; just seems to be my impression with Bouchard). We'll see if that happens here, but no harm in drinking now and not taking the risk.

Friday night wines at Thierry's place (Wellington, New Zealand): Colour deep red. Spicy, fairly sweet nose of raspberry, bloody meat, earth and a more feral, evolved element described by tasters as wet dog or old leather horse saddle (not a fault). On palate, a tangy, powerful, rich wine, but relatively elegant, with great acidity. On the reveal, no surprise that this is another excellent Volnay '07. Drinking well now but with years ahead of it.

Had a little more time to focus on this bottle this time around. Approachable day 1, but a little youthful, disjointed, and finished a touch hot and this bitter note appeared. By day 2, this had come together nicely -- dark crunchy fruit, stony, soft lingering finish without heat or bitterness. I really enjoyed this after it had been opened 24 hours. Message here is leave this one in the cellar for another 2-3 years.

Approachable dark Volnay fruit with classic Taillepieds minerality. Drinking well now with a long decant -- not surprising based on the vintage. This will age well based on its impeccable balance and concentration. An excellent '07.
