Been working through my “time to drink” wines. I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. Still showing some fruit. This wine has held its own. I would drink within the next year, as further age will not benefit the wine.

No decant; 17c; dark, slightly coppered purple; nose of barn, leather, sage, pepper; soft attack, full fruit, bright tannins, long finish; stewed plums, cherries, licorice; still holding up. 18 (Next day it was drinking well, chewy dried cherries and plums, with a tight, long finish. Lovely).

Gorgeous wine from the moment you decant it. Ready all the way with that ripe cherry and forest floor, sweet spices but all combined in a sheer drinkability, fantastic for drinking now. Purchased from the winery on my visit 4y ago for €40. I know the Gran Selezione kick started later, so this label must represent the same wine with no GS mark on it.

A bit from memory, but this bottle impressed me.
Decanted for about an hour, which I think helped.
Smooth and well-balanced. Best of the lot for me (and my last).

Typical nose of cherry and earth with a touch of mint. Medium weight. Good firm tannic structure on the earthy finish.
