  • Riesling bash at CHIKO (Chevy Chase, Maryland): This has a lot of plush, ripe, tropical fruit (pineapple, kiwi, white peach). Seems generous but precise, however, with great balance and laser-like minerals. In a very good spot now. I’d drink up or hold for another year or two.

  • A bottle I didn’t know I had… this is as good as it gets. Sharp yet elegant, amazing balance and concentration. Notes of grapefruit and wet limestone, very gentle citrus. Peaking now.

  • This is an incredibly good example on how well very good Rieslings age. The color is golden, but still with a green taint that is impressive. In addition, there is still visible sign of CO2 in the glass. After 13 years? Nose dominated by very ripe lime at the first whiff, then more mature tones of red apples, citrus, some crushed stone/dust, and a fascinating hint of white chocolate and almonds. The nose hints at at a wine that is semi sweet, but the mouth only partly supports the nose: full bodied, almost sweet attack, with a "spritzy" feel of CO2. Lots of apples and lime, and then a searing acidity that cleans up the mouth, lifting it into an aftertaste where the discreet mineral tones combines with sweet red apples, lime and a hint of dried fruit. The aftertaste is extremely long, combining fine fruit sweetness with fantastic freshness. This is just impressive. I am still a bit baffled by finding CO2 in a wine this old, is it a fault or is it meant to be like this? Probably a wine for eternity. Will it get better? I doubt it, but those willing and able to try will probably have an fantastic voyage in front of them

  • PNP into 薄はり葡萄酒器 (“Root” to “No” day): Medium golden to the eyes.

Grapefruit, richer mouthfeel (more malolactic notes). Minerality-driven palate as observed per last tasted of this vineyard.

2nd round: remained to be more minerality driven, less about acidity. Wine to be enjoyed now.

    93 points.
