Medium garnet, caramel colour on the rim. Rich nose - full of farmyard, touched with bramble fruit and fresh woodland cepes. Mouth entry is soft but nicely pointed with acidity. Lovely richness of plum conserve and gamey duck. Lingers beautifully on the finish. This doesn't show striking density or complexity but is just perfect. Runs the 89 close for wine of the night.

Domaine Maume Mazis Chambertin Tasting with Anthony Hanson MW (Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London): Medium mahogany core, wide rim. Lovely sweet, evolved fruit on the nose, caramel, spice. Complex, fragrant and beguiling, could sniff this all night. Lovely harmonious palate, absolutely nothing out of place, beautiful acidity, drinking superbly with a lovely freshness about it and a classy, lingering finish. Drinking beautifully but can't see why there would be any need to hurry. Fantastic wine - 95+ and my WOTN.

(Maume Mazis-Chambertin) Medium, medium-plus colour with amber at the rim. A slightly smoky element to add to the earth but a dense core of beautiful fruit is ascendant - a treat. The palate is slightly ‘confiture’, plenty of apparent concentration widening on the palate before narrowing into the finish which has a lingering fruit note borne on the acidity. Fresh and very lovely.

Tight on first opening, but after 30 minutes fruit and elegance began to emerge. Round and delicious.

Damn…corked! Too bad, as the wine on the palate had beautiful balance, with a sweetness and lush quality that I really liked. NR

Fine, but generally unexceptional.
