  • For a Mercurey this is utterly profound. Surprising concentration - complex quite dark toned fruit with notes of forest floor now. Among those of us tasting this, some felt these woodsy notes more forcefully than myself. Cool fruit - there is no flash or easy sweetness here - and yet no suggestion of anything except full ripeness. Refreshing on the palate. Clear thread of acid. Fine grained tannins show up late. A restrained style. All in balance. Serious for its appellation. Testimony, if needed, not only that this wine keeps but that in my view it benefits from some time in bottle. I wish I had more. Bought on release.

  • This is really good example of why it is worth holding on to well made "minor" Burgundies. Everything is in place in a minor way and in perfect balance. Still some structure underpinning this wine. And still very present fruit though also now some leafy sous bois/earthy notes. Nicely integrated. You could keep this still but it will not get better. Bought on release. Lovely for what it is. Why am I not surprised ?

  • Nice earthy richness, though the fruit had a slightly stewed quality.

  • Very traditional. A bit austere. Fruit is restrained, tannins well integrated.

  • Drank over several hours, but it was really only the 20-30 minutes while I was eating a steak that the structure had softened enough for the material underneath to show its elegance and sap. It's not that the fruit is absent - it's plenty vivid, with the vintage's usual perfect ripeness - but the tannins are drying enough that without the steak fat to melt them away, they put an unattractive veneer on the wine. With the steak though, it was as elegant and pampering as any pinot noir I've had for a long while.
