11-2-10 at home alone. Easily one of the best syrahs I have had in recent memory-from anywhere! Big, brooding black-purple color, it stains the glass. Rich, fruit-laden aromas, with big black fruits and a hint of bacon. Gorgeous palate: rich, mouth-filling, with lovely fat black fruits perfectly structured and balanced with tannin and acid. Amazingly pure and elegant for such a huge wine. This is lovely! 5-13-19-9: 96/100.

This wine had sufficient air and breathing time, as I opened it and drank 1/2 of it more than 24 hours ago. Bacon fat and florals are the two expressive notes on the bouquet--both strong and center stage and these notes would be a nice teaching tool for new wine drinkers as to what CA syrah can show--very illustrative. Like with other Melville syrahs in the past, blue fruited but this one has a sweet edge to the fruit, along with some pepper and licorice. Like with the 2004 Carlisle Judge syrah, this wine too is IMO at peak prime and ready to go.

Black Sheep Bistro (Black Sheep Bistro, Tustin, CA): Bright fruits on the nose with some stem and pepper notes. Big fruited with a touch of heat but there was something captivating about this. One of the more enjoyable Melville wines I have had.

Outstanding wine - deep & complex but extremely balanced with a bit of finesse.
Deep dark brooding inky color with a rich legs. Very complex nose with violets, herbs, cassis and green peppers. Wonderfully balanced fruit with blueberry, bing cherry & blackberry jam notes wrapped in silky tannins of grain leather, cedar box & vanilla that seem to last forever.
This will last another 5 -10 years which is when I should open the next one.

Raspberry and beef jerky. Maybe just a touch past prime, but excellent.
