Very dark hue. Beefy meaty flavour, still tannic but with a smooth texture. There is some primary strawberry fruit, and its fresh and a little leafy. Long savoury finish. Very good.

Bernard Dugat-Py's Lavaux is already very exuberant, bursting from the glass—or better, decanter—with a projected and intense bouquet of brooding red and black fruits (plum, blackcurrant), rich earth and roasted game. On the palate the wine is intense, powerful and supple, just entering its drinking window and underpinned by a chassis of refined tannins and fresh acidity. This was great fun, and really a revelation give the stereotype so commonly trotted out with regard to this Domaine.

EWG does 2002 Burgundy (Palate Wine & Food (Glendale, CA)): Started out showing mostly structured with tell tale flavors of herbs, stems and seeds that I associate with this producer. As it opened, it revealed more fruit and gained more balance. Another wine that is years away from maturity.

EWG does 2002 Burgundy at Palate (Palate, Glendale, CA): Very forward and primary nose showing some stewed fruit ripeness and a distinct note dried herbs. Fleshy and rich palate showing plenty of juicy extracted plum. Much bigger and extracted than I have come to expect. This really needs some time to settle.

Dugat vs. Dugat-Py: Charmes-Chambertin and Lavaux St.-Jacques Head-to-Head (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Big black fruit on nose, but just too much smoke, new oak and sulfur for me. I had trouble really enjoying the flavors given all the unusual nose. Others liked this considerably more than I did tonight.
