Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 80 points

  • I tried this at a tasting last Saturday to see how it compared to the 2000 version. I really liked the depth, body and flavor profile of the 2000 and scored it around 90 points if I recal correctly. The 2001 vintage in Beaujolais was said to be poor. Much of the wine was discarded or turned into fuel. For the most part, only the top vineyard sites survived the carnage and produced wines. The vineyards of Jean Descombes were one of them. This wine was quite disappointing. It had a bubble gum nose which is not atypical of Beaujolais but is more common in the regular Beaujolais and the Nouveau rather than the Cru wines. Very fruity, simple and unbalanced. 79-81 points.
