Out of 375 mL. Labelled "Domaine Ponelle" rather than Pierre Ponelle. Spices, leaves, mushrooms, a slight greenish note that adds appealing freshness (more like fresh herbs than pyrazines), occasionally some sweet black cherry fruit appears, a slight whiff of Brett. With air it becomes surprisingly full and glossy, with silky resolved tannins. Not much fruit left but neither is it drying out, having turned savory, full of iron and mushrooms and earth. Fully mature and tertiary. Satisfying in that old-school idiom, but hardly showstopping; one might expect more given the vintage and vineyard. Held up well to a few hours of air.

Tasted from half bottle. Lovely rustic nose of sous bois, earth. Not a lot of fruit on the nose. Medium weight. Could be a tad better balanced, as the acidity was a bit prominent. Not as good as the 78 Musigny tasted recently. A treat however.

Leroy, Unico, Rayas, Ravenau and etc (Washington DC): Earthy, rustic and masculine which is what I expect from this producer. Showing young but charmless. If you like masculine old Cortons, you may like the wine a bit more than me.

No Formal notes taken. Tasted out of a half bottle. Absolutely wonderful aromatics with fine detail and precision of woodland aromas married to silky floral tones that can also be found on the palate. There is an inner mouth perfume that continues long passed the finish revealing an endless span of herbs and spices, dried meats and flowers. Lots of character and style.
