4th Saturday Uptown Brown Bagger (MM's): Double blind. Light color- looks like a twin of the '08 Hudelot in the first flight. Lovely bouquet of tar, rose petal, cherry and currants. Floral and elegant. Develops a game/meaty quality with air. Balanced, with abundant red berry fruit and cherry, white currant and mineral tones on the palate with terrific supporting acidity that gives this a bit of brightness that carries the finish. There is so much to like here and examples such as this have plenty of life remaining. 94-95 pts.
An absolutely gorgeous testament to the adage that there are no such things as great wines but only great bottles (a bottle from the same cellar/same case tasted nearly two years ago to the day was over-the-hill). A generous contribution from R&D.

truchot is such a hard producer for me to pin down blind. In fleshier years they tend to show more secondary complexity than other wines of the same vintage. it’s hard for me to approximate the vintage when blind. In 2002 - other top producers are very youthful and fruit forward. The truchot has plenty of fruit, but it’s that sweet muddled lightweight strawberry you get in fine aged burgundy a decade+ older and texturally the wines feel more suave and softly textured and airy as if they’ve been given time to age. Lots of spice, herbaceous notes and gentle acidity that comes with time. Bottle is ready to drink and showing plenty of wonderful complexity.

My 60th birthday. With smoked duck hash over arugula. Salted strawberry panna cotta, pepper and cinnamon, and just a tiny little bit of cow dung in the nose and the finish. Fabulous.

Second Sunday Group: 2002 Burgundies (R&D's): Double blind. Aromas of cherry, sweet tea and rose petals. Light; flavors of cherry, white currant and black tea. Degrades with air, showing more and more bouillon the longer it sits, while the tea and cherry notes fade into the background. Soft finish.

Sensational. Red and black fruits and a very pleasing sweetness. This was open for business. Lush with a lot of depth and character. Some good spices and earth notes and a ton of strawberries. Served blind to the table most were guessing Vosne and not Chambolle. Very difficult wine to guess blind. A great bottle that is very much in the zone today.
