Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): I love the exotic expression of the 08 Vosne wines. Expressive nose displaying ripe red and black fruit, strawberry jam, blackberry, a hint of green, cannabis, incense, sap, licorice, dark spices and earth. Very good concentration, nicely layered ripe red and black fruit, rich yet good precision and detail, bright acidity and earthy mineral and a long ripe red and black fruit driven finish with a hint of cannabis and sap at the end. The cannabis expression is similar to the 08 DRCs but not as strong. I think this will show beautifully in ten years when sous bois emerges.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): In 10/09/09/98 vertical with a Jean Gros 83 bonus. Decanted an hour in advance because tannins seemed slightly coarse, and the air really seemed to help. Seamless red cherry , nicely spiced with good power. Still firm when poured, this gradually softened, softened, and softened some more. Last sip was the best. Continued patience will be rewarded.

Wow. What a wine. So punchy and upfront. This was served blind and some thought new world! Lots of perfume and fragrance. High acidity. Strawberries. Very balanced. At 10 years, this is still very young. It was drank alongside a 1972 Richebourg, and this definitely has the stuffing to last. Served blind by DrK. Personally, I would be leaving this another decade.

Spicy, much deeper and longer than the Echezeaux, a little floral, solid acidity and tannin that becomes more prominent with air, but there is enough fruit to keep it from sticking out too much. Lots of life left.

No, it's too oaky and clumsy. Quality fruit, yes. But no elegance.
