Took several hours in the decanter to open up. Quite dark colour, red to brown rim. A touch of blackberry, very strong orange zest, leather, earthy and some spicy cinnamon. Medium to full bodied, still quite tannic. Sappy fruit acid then a lovely dry fresh finish. slightly herbal, fennel or cardamon. Excellent.

The nose on the 2005 was wonderfully pretty, showing fresh strawberry with dried herbs, florals, and hints of moist earth. On the palate, I found light textures with zesty red fruits, minerals and inner floral tones in a light yet energetic expression. The finish was medium in length, showing pretty spice and floral tones. The ‘05 is drinking beautifully, yet it’s hard to justify the tariff.

Drank next to the 2004 and 2006. More straightforward, less complex than the 2004 and less tannic than the 2006. Juicier, fruitier, and ligher in body. Still really good.

Open for business. Needed two hours of decanting. Tannins sweet. Overall a bit simpler, less brooding brunello but enjoyable drinking.
