  Prequel to Italy (Amali in NYC): This wine was opened and decanted at the restaurant. It was probably my favorite of the night, but took till the very end of the night to show it's true colors. Started off really tannic - in my early tastes that was the only flavor I could pull out. After awhile got the earth flavors and then a nice spice. By the end of the night (~4 hours later) there was a wonderful dark fruit as well. Delicious.

  PNP via Coravin. Deep garnet color with orange rim. Complex, musky nose that includes menthol, licorice, blackberry, black cherry, bramble, plum, earth, meat. Earthy, musky dark fruit, cherry on the palate. Long finish. This is a big wine with high tannin, acidity, alcohol (14.5%) and full body. It's rich, layered, dark. I drank it without food, so probably didn't appreciate it at its best. But it's still wonderful, in its sweet spot, with plenty of life left.
