  • Pain d’épices, sucre d’orge, du vrai bonbon, belle longueur!

  • Half bottle, ullage <1.5cm, 12.5% ABV. Intense and deep, amber golden colour; the wooly note on the nose immediately gives the Chenin game away, fresh and mineral but with lots of spicy, old botrytis too, apricot and orange blossom; the palate is unctuous and sweet with an oily texture, but it does not lack freshness, and displays notes of tropical fruit and caramel; Alpine herbs on the finish, rosemary, not very focused, but length is good. Fully developed, this comes across as much older than 1999 - from the 1980's maybe? No real hurry, but no real upside either.

  • 13% alcohol, 50 cl bottle. Served blind.

Luminous and moderately deep copper orange color. Developed and very concentrated nose with a very noticeable aroma of saffron along with sweet, intense aromas of honey, orange blossom, tangerine marmalade, some nutty notes, a little bit of developed mealy and bready character, a hint of sweet woolly notes, nuances of earthy mushrooms and a touch cloudberries. The wine is sweet, oily and complex on the palate with medium-to-moderate acidity and sweet, layered flavors of stony minerality and stone dust, honey, orange marmalade, a little bit of sweet tangerine, boulangerie nuances of sweet pastries and hints of smoky spices, bitterness and nutty walnut character. The wine becomes markedly more dry towards the end of the aftertaste. The finish is very long, lively and relatively dry with complex, developed flavors of nuttiness, some saline character, a little bit of honeyed sweetness, spicy wildhoney and a hint of orange marmalade. Despite its rather dry taste, the aftertaste feels a bit sticky due to its relatively high residual sugar.

A very tasty and surprisingly developed Chenin Blanc sticky. It took us a bit of time to pinpoint the exact location of the wine to Loire valley; it was that telltale woolly note that finally exposed the wine as a Chenin Blanc. We were pretty surprised how the wine was "only" 1999 - it tasted quite developed for its age. Based on that, I'd say the wine hasn't got much more life left. It will still keep for some time, but this obviously isn't a keeper; drink within the next few years. Very nice stuff.

  • Interesting, but a bit too much. Intense nose with lots of burned rubber, honey, wax, apricots, saffron and glue. Pronounced sweetness on the palate and lacks a bit of acidity and freshness.

  • Weekly tasting group #175; A mixed set. (@ RvD): In the bouquet a lot of apricots, honey and botrytis. On the palate orange, caramel, coffee, nougat, a lot of concentrated sweetness, but also beautiful fresh acidity. Beautiful and harmonious wine. Ready now and the next few years.
