I liked the mid-90s Saintsbury wines a lot, but was less happy in early aughts, and this was an orphan bottle that I’d forgotten about. The good news is the fruit is still there, but this is a tad hot (14.5 degrees, which isn’t so high, but it shows). Black cherries, a little oak still, mushrooms. Not sure anything gained by aging this, but it’s alive. B-

Wow. What a surprise. Last few times this was not showing well and seemed past its prime. But tonight it was great. Like aged Burgundy with lingering fruit. It showed some mushroom and earth, too. Great nose. One of the top three wines of the night.

Very dark color, with whiffs of brambly raspberry and black cherry. Hint of brettanomyces.
