  • Schäfer-Fröhlich Retaste + Some Extras (Fatty Weng Restaurant): I was fearing the worse - cut price Bordeaux on a weak vintage - but this was actually pretty decent for what it is. Nose was quite worrying at first, coming across very funky and wet woody. I thought it might have been corked. Some air really helped though, and it opened up tp show some sweet cassis, herby capsium notes and some toast. Palate, as would be expected, was very simple and a little thin on the ground, but was otherwise pleasantly balanced, with simple, but nice enough flavours of sweetish cassis and cherries sprinkled with bits of spice into shortish, but pleasant finish, were a bit more herbs and asparagus showed up. There was a hint of greeness, a bit of alcohol, but these were all hovering around the fringes of the wine, never quite threatening to mar it. Really quite decent at its price.
