The nose simply draws you in with notes of cumquat, honey, lanolin and vanilla. The palate is multi-layered and possesses the perfect amount of sweetness. It is rich and heady, yet detailed and precise. Structural elements support and the finish is expansive and so persistent. A wonderful bottle.

From 375ml. Nicely evolved in terms of colour. Expressive nose, medicinal notes, apricot, botrytis spice, caramel. Quite savoury on the palate, great acidity, good mouthfeel, great balance and depth. Persistent and vibrant finish. Delicious. 94-96

375ml bottle with perfect fill. Dried and fresh apricot comes across as rich and sweet, perhaps not the most complex vintage ever of d'Yquem, but old enough that complexity is coming through nicely.

wine displayed a deep amber color in the glass. About an hour after opening, offering aromas of honey, apricot, and beeswax. The flavors were well-balanced, showing a consistent quality throughout the palate, especially as it continues to reveal different nuances over time. The finish was long and memorable, highlighting the quality of this vintage.

Out of half-bottle, this is simply a beautiful vintage of Yquem with great complexity and elegance. So balanced and refined with just the right touch of sweetness and fabulous Yquem flavors of salty caramel, red berries and clove spice. However, this vintage, at least out of half-bottle, has reached a perfect level of maturity and this won't have the staying power of say the '75, '83 or '89 so drink up!

Deep amber. Pronounced with aromas of dried apricots, dried mango, raisins, baked citrus, french boulangerie, croissants, pastry, caramel, honey, almonds, hazelnuts, marzipan, chocolate. Sweet, high acidity, low alcohol, full bodied. Pronounced with taste of dried apricots and mango, raisins, baked citrus, orange peel, croissants, bread crust, caramel, honey, almonds, marzipan, hazelnuts and chocolate. Very very long.

Deep and complex nose with apricots, honey, and orange as the key components. Impeccably balanced palate with good acidity, only moderate sweetness, more orange and some lemon flavors, apricot, hay, honey, and caramel. Very long finish. A fantastic experience! Surprisingly youthful and elegant, it feels like the wine needs another couple of decades to show its best. Pure class.

"Rousseau is for drinking" (La Trompette): Based on my scores, this keeps getting better and better! Deep and creamy yet also seamless and elegant, with enough vanilla biscuit and toffee apple to make a delicious dessert wine, and a sense of easy poise that made it simply great to drink as well. Well-evolved in a soft, honeyed register, and without the aggressive marmalade or cloying spice often found on Sauternes of this age; if I were to be picky, I might observe that it was almost *too* well-balanced!

Night of sweet wines with Lianzijia (Newmarket, Auckland): from 750ml bottle. dark with brown hue. marmalade, apricot jam, honeysuckle and caramel, with a little nut and crème brûlée, dense texture, sufficient acidity to support a large-scale and balanced structure, good on density and length.

It's a bit oxidised, having some port-like flavours, which is not favoured, however, in a rare chance to taste a 27-year-old d'Yquem, how can I expect freshness, I accept it as a flavour of age.

Alc 13.9%, TA 4.8 g/L, RS 120 g/L

Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Obelix - Chicago IL): Small taste. Absolutely delicious, and absolutely a decade too young. Precocious but approachable, even if not showing much of the nuance that will certainly emerge with cellar time. But lots of depth, great 94-95+ point potential.

Had some a few weeks ago for my birthday from Coravin and finished off the bottle this eve. It’s really lovely - a bit more developed in colour and depth since the last bottle we opened 18 months ago. I think it’s prob in a bit of an in between phase. I love young sweet wine and old sweet wine - I think this probably is just somewhere a bit too in the middle at the moment, if that makes sense

This bottle is the finest 83 Yquem I've tasted so far and ranks among the best Sauternes I've experienced. This particular bottle showed more development than typical for its vintage, offering a preview of what this vintage may provide in future decades. Very close to perfection.

TN: Dark golden color. This wine is open and expressive from the go, improving with an hour in the decanter. It features a complex, layered array of dense, sweet fruits like orange, apricot, and quince, enriched with brioche, spices, saffron, toffee, and tea. The complexity is off the charts. Each aroma is distinctly delineated, supported by a spine of acidity that perfectly balances the sweetness, ensuring the wine feels neither heavy nor cloying. The overall balance is perfect.

Decanting: 1-2 hours in the decanter should be sufficient.

Dinner with the wine group (Los Gatos): Burnished orange, lighter than my previous half bottle of 1967; aromatic, orange, caramel, saffron, spice; palate is full bodied, youthful, still some residual sweetness, some orange marmalade fruit, minerality, some spice; long finish. This is far more youthful than my half-bottle of this a few years ago, and this tastes like it could still evolve for two decades or longer. This is a phenomenal Sauternes, but it needs more age (decades) to reach the peak of the last half bottle I opened. 96++

fantastic wine, but what do you expect from d'Yquem... apricot preserves, spring flowers, marmalade, mushrooms, petrichor, long and complex finish, Sauternes is not always my cup of tea, but this is fabulous, and not too cloying and sweet, loved it

I was secretly hoping to be critical and say, nah, it's not all it's cracked up to be, but how wrong I was. It's the greatest sweet wine I've ever had, in fact one of the greatest wines of any kind I've ever had. You would not, could not, want to drink this every day. It's like listening to Mozart's Requiem for the first time and realising what beauty is. This truly is the most sensational wine. Believe it. What an absurd privilege.

Medium to dark amber. Nose of perfumed apricot, honeycomb, stone, bruised apple. Complex, fresh layers of butterscotch, peach, apricot, and caramel cascading across the tongue. Sweet but not cloying, with exceptional delineation and detail. Long finish of white peach, vanilla, and steely apricot. A happy conclusion to a family birthday party.

Another lovely experience with the 1998 Yquem. It continues to develop slowly, with a really intense note of nectarine. Mango, pineapple, apricot, honey, ginger, and fine herbs are all found. It married incredibly well with a 12 month Comte and a salty Brie de Meaux. So good

Tasted double blind, decanted. From 0,75 bottle. Probably not the best bottle, nose not that expressive. On the palate classic Yquem elegance and length, but not the usual tension. Nevertheless very joyful 👍
